## Key takeaways

- China's new energy heavy truck sales reached 26,800 units in August, up 51% year on year\.
- SANY, Sitrak, Weichai, REPT, Sunwoda and CATL have introduced heavy truck batteries with capacities reaching up to 882 kWh and megawatt charging\.
- Policy targets 40% new energy heavy truck penetration by 2030, with more than 1\.6 million units in operation\.

## Higher Capacity and Megawatt Charging

Battery specifications for new energy heavy trucks in China have moved toward 800 kWh, up from a previous starting point of around 400 kWh\. In March, SANY launched the SE882 battery-electric tractor with an 882 kWh battery and an official combined-cycle range of more than 570 km\. The 800 kWh Sitrak battery-electric tractor later entered the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's new vehicle catalogue\.

At the Hannover Commercial Vehicle Show in September, Weichai displayed the EM300 underfloor battery for heavy trucks covering 600–800 kWh, aimed at long-haul trunk-line transport\. REPT's Chassis D Pro also reaches 600–800 kWh, targeting a range of 600–700 km\. Sunwoda's heavy truck battery platform has a maximum capacity configuration of 804 kWh\.

In 2025, the average battery capacity per new energy heavy truck was about 415 kWh, with models of 400–423 kWh accounting for about 40% and models above 500 kWh about 18%\.

## Policy Push for Trunk-Line Electrification

In late May, the Ministry of Transport and 10 other departments issued the Implementation Plan for Promoting Large-Scale Application of New Energy Heavy Trucks, calling for accelerated expansion of new energy heavy trucks into trunk-line transport\. By 2030, policy targets include a 40% penetration rate for new energy heavy trucks, a fleet exceeding 1\.6 million units, construction of 30,000 km of zero-carbon highway transport corridors along key sections of the national expressway network, and support for building about 3,000 heavy truck charging and battery-swap stations\.

## Fast Charging and Battery Life

Bu Xiangnan, executive vice president of Cuneng New Energy, said customer requirements for charging rates have reached above 1\.3C, and the company is continuing to develop 2C–2\.5C products\. Cuneng's currently mass-produced 324 Ah heavy truck cell supports up to 1\.3C charging, exceeds 7,000 cycles, and has an energy density of 193 Wh/kg\.

Sunwoda's latest Xinhui Ultra 3\.0 achieves a charging power of 2\.5 MW and adds more than 470 kWh in 10 minutes\. Its long-life product offers 3\.2 million kWh of cumulative discharge over 10 years\. REPT's 600–800 kWh solution covers fast-charging power of 750–1,300 kW\.

CATL released the TECTRANS II commercial vehicle battery platform in September, with a top configuration range of 1,000 km and megawatt-level fast charging that reaches 80% in 25 minutes\. The heavy truck version is designed for a 12-year, 1\.5-million-km service life and targets 70% capacity retention at the end of its lifecycle\.

## August Sales and Battery-Swap Mix

Insurance registration data show China sold 26,800 new energy heavy trucks in August, up 51% year on year\. Cumulative sales for January–August reached 193,000 units, up 70% year on year\.

Battery-electric heavy truck sales in August were 26,500 units, of which 21,300 were charging models, up 77% year on year and accounting for 80\.34% of battery-electric heavy trucks\. Battery-swap heavy trucks sold 5,214 units, down 5% year on year\. Charging heavy trucks have accounted for more than 70% of battery-electric heavy trucks for 11 consecutive months\.

For January–August, battery-swap heavy trucks still sold 44,600 units cumulatively, up 26% year on year\. In the first eight months, battery-swap models made up 23\.4% of battery-electric heavy trucks, down nearly 7 percentage points from full-year 2025\. Compulsory insurance vehicle classification does not fully represent actual replenishment methods, and some vehicles counted as battery-swap models may also use charging\.

## Battery Installations

GGII statistics show that in the first half of 2026, power battery installations for new energy heavy trucks approached 60 GWh, up 89% year on year, accounting for 75\.7% of power battery installations for new energy specialized vehicles\.
