Targets for 2030

Beijing released the Beijing Hydrogen Industry Development Implementation Plan (2026–2030) on October 30 through the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology. The plan sets a 2030 goal of more than 10,000 fuel cell vehicles in cumulative use and more than 40 hydrogen refueling stations.

Under the plan, Beijing's hydrogen industry chain is targeted to exceed 40 billion yuan by 2030, with the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei hydrogen industry chain targeted to exceed 100 billion yuan. The plan calls for adding more than 6,000 hydrogen-powered vehicles and building a hydrogen highway network of "6 main corridors plus 11 branch lines."

Green hydrogen supply and emissions

The plan calls for building sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) projects in the Yanshan area and at Changping Asuwei, forming green hydrogen consumption capacity of more than 35,000 tonnes per year and replacing all hydrogen produced from fossil fuels. Annual carbon dioxide emissions are targeted to be reduced by more than 300,000 tonnes.

Beijing plans to build a capital green hydrogen supply hub in Fangshan District, with green hydrogen supply capacity of more than 50,000 tonnes per year during the 15th Five-Year Plan period. The plan also supports building a green hydrogen and green fuel trading center.

Hydrogen pipelines and stations

The Ulanqab green hydrogen pipeline to Beijing is planned to transmit 500,000 tonnes of hydrogen per year, running about 1,059 kilometers from the Shangdu first station through Inner Mongolia, Hebei, Beijing and Tianjin. The overall pipeline has a design pressure of 6.3 MPa, a maximum operating pressure of 5.72 MPa and pipe diameters of D457/D610, with 10 stations and 50 valve chambers along the route.
