Higher Capacity and Megawatt Charging

Battery specifications for new energy heavy trucks in China have moved toward 800 kWh, up from a previous starting point of around 400 kWh. In March, SANY launched the SE882 battery-electric tractor with an 882 kWh battery and an official combined-cycle range of more than 570 km. The 800 kWh Sitrak battery-electric tractor later entered the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's new vehicle catalogue.

At the Hannover Commercial Vehicle Show in September, Weichai displayed the EM300 underfloor battery for heavy trucks covering 600–800 kWh, aimed at long-haul trunk-line transport. REPT's Chassis D Pro also reaches 600–800 kWh, targeting a range of 600–700 km. Sunwoda's heavy truck battery platform has a maximum capacity configuration of 804 kWh.

In 2025, the average battery capacity per new energy heavy truck was about 415 kWh, with models of 400–423 kWh accounting for about 40% and models above 500 kWh about 18%.

Policy Push for Trunk-Line Electrification

In late May, the Ministry of Transport and 10 other departments issued the Implementation Plan for Promoting Large-Scale Application of New Energy Heavy Trucks, calling for accelerated expansion of new energy heavy trucks into trunk-line transport. By 2030, policy targets include a 40% penetration rate for new energy heavy trucks, a fleet exceeding 1.6 million units, construction of 30,000 km of zero-carbon highway transport corridors along key sections of the national expressway network, and support for building about 3,000 heavy truck charging and battery-swap stations.
