Chuneng signs 3GWh in cylindrical battery agreements

Chuneng New Energy signed strategic cooperation agreements with three companies during the China Jiangsu International Electric Vehicle Exhibition on October 22-23, covering a combined 3GWh of 20Ah cylindrical batteries. Chaowei Chuangyuan signed for 1.5GWh, Tianyi Energy for 1GWh and Huayou Energy for 500MWh.

At a nominal lithium iron phosphate voltage of 3.2V, a single 20Ah cell holds about 64Wh, so the 3GWh cooperation volume corresponds to demand for roughly 47 million cells.

The three customers focus on light-duty power batteries

Chaowei Chuangyuan is the lithium battery business platform of Chaowei Group, covering cell manufacturing and pack integration, with products spanning electric bicycles, electric motorcycles and energy storage.

Tianyi Energy is a lithium battery manufacturing entity under Tianbo Group, with a focus on light-duty power batteries. Huayou Energy was initiated by Huayou Recycling together with Toyota Tsusho and other companies, and its business covers full-lifecycle battery management and light electric vehicle applications.

20Ah cell supports 1C charging and over 2,500 cycles

The 20Ah lithium iron phosphate cylindrical battery Chuneng displayed uses a full-tab design and supports 1C charging and 2C discharging, with a 1C fast-charge cycle life of more than 2,500 cycles, according to the company.

In March, at an exhibition in Tianjin, Chuneng said the 20Ah cylindrical battery had entered volume delivery, and it introduced a 45Ah lithium iron phosphate battery dedicated to electric motorcycles plus 30Ah and 50Ah products for markets including low-speed vehicles.
