Capacity Expansion
Ampace has announced that capacity for its JP40 series has reached the hundred-million-unit level, while Renergy New Energy said its second winding and assembly line at its Changzhou base has officially entered mass production.
Established small cylindrical battery makers including BAK and Penghui have also joined this push, while EVE and Tianpeng, a subsidiary of Weilan Lixin, are working to release overseas small cylindrical capacity.
Full-tab small cylindrical batteries are filling a capacity gap that is difficult to close quickly in the short term, with the supply shortage expected to ease from the second half of this year into next year.
Technology Shift
Nearly all companies' mass-produced products point to the same technical indicator: full-tab or tabless designs.
In earlier years, traditional 21700 small cylindrical batteries once became the dedicated battery for Tesla's Model 3. After 2020, the exploration of full-tab technology in large cylindrical batteries drew collective efforts from global battery companies.
Yifei Laser's production line efficiency has risen sharply from the traditional 50PPM to more than 300PPM, and can even reach 400PPM.
Products and Applications
Products include Ampace's JP40, EVE's 40PL, BAK's 40D and Tianpeng's 40XG, among others.
Some full-tab small cylindrical batteries have passed stringent nail penetration tests.
Ampace's JP30 and JP50, among multiple specifications, cover small to medium-to-large humanoid robots, while Renergy's RS50 high-nickel series is also positioning itself in this track.
