JD.com enters shared battery swapping

JD.com is expanding into shared battery swapping, following the launch of its in-house battery brand Gongfu. The company has planned a series of standardized lithium battery products numbered one through eight, covering electric tools, robots, two- and three-wheelers, unmanned vehicles and unmanned logistics vehicles, drones and ships.

JD.com's instant delivery network has more than one million riders, with more than 100,000 full-time riders. A battery swap takes only tens of seconds, saving four to six hours compared with charging.

JD Technology partnership with Didi Qingju

In 2023, JD Technology reached a strategic partnership with Didi Qingju to combine battery swapping and shared two-wheeler resources, extending JD's battery swapping cloud service from logistics scenarios to parks and consumer scenarios.

JD.com may next open its battery swapping platform to third-party instant delivery platforms and courier last-mile networks.

Industry battery demand forecast

GGII forecasts that China's full-year lithium battery shipments for light electric vehicles, including two-wheelers, could reach 45GWh in 2026.
