Award recognizes 2200MPa steel project

The 2200MPa Xiaomi ultra-strength steel has won first prize in the Metallurgical Science and Technology Award, presented by the China Iron and Steel Association and the Chinese Society for Metals. The award year is 2026, and the certificate number is 2026-079-1-3. The winning unit listed on the certificate is Xiaomi Auto Technology Co., Ltd.

The awarded project is titled "Development and Application of 1000–2200MPa Series High-Performance Thin Al-Si Coated Hot-Stamping Steel for Automobiles." Xiaomi describes it as the result of deep industry-academia-research collaboration between Xiaomi Auto, Yucai Tang, Northeastern University and other enterprises.

Mass production across Xiaomi models

Results from the project are now in mass production application in the Xiaomi YU7, the new-generation Xiaomi SU7 and the Xiaomi Pengcheng. Steels at 1000MPa, 1500MPa, 2000MPa and 2200MPa strength levels are all in mass production use on Xiaomi cars.
