Electrification Push Beyond Cars

At Chery's Global Innovation Conference on October 20, Chairman Yin Tongyue described traditional automakers as akin to stable keepers and carriage workshop owners facing the first Mercedes-Benz, and said Chery aims to use AI to reorganize its capabilities into what he called a technology company wearing an automaker's vest.

Chery's electrification efforts now extend beyond passenger cars into motorcycles, robots, agricultural machinery, battery production and vehicle-to-grid services. On September 3, at the World Power Battery Conference, Yin said electric vehicles can serve not only as transport but also as mobile intelligent spaces, distributed energy carriers, computing carriers and internet-of-everything ports.

Zero Dimension Motorcycles Target 2027 Launch

On October 19, Chery's Zero Dimension Technology showcased the SOLO X5 electric motorcycle, the GROW C3 range-extended motorcycle, a hybrid powertrain and a smart helmet. The SOLO X5's announced fast-charge target is 20 minutes to go from 20% to 80% state of charge, while the GROW C3 uses a range-extended route aimed at long-distance motorcycle travel.

Tu Xiaoyue, deputy general manager of Chery Intelligent Technology, said global motorcycle sales total about 65 million units a year, of which about 30 million fall into the leisure and recreational target market Zero Dimension is focusing on. Zero Dimension proposed a Motor life business concept spanning products, gear, travel and user communities.

Zero Dimension has more than 200 employees: about 30% from the four-wheel vehicle industry, 40% from the fuel and electric two-wheeler industries, and 30% from internet, AI and other fields. The company plans to build an independent sales and service system and is considering reusing channel resources from automotive brands including Jetour and iCAR. Its first products are expected in the first half of 2027.
